Glen Cottage has been aptly described “the cutest little self-catering cottage in the Cape Peninsula – EVER!” – and with some justification. It’s a quite delightful, fully renovated and immaculate fisherman-style, self-catering cottage, sleeping 6, less than a minutes’ drive from wild and wonderful Kommetjie Longbeach, a world famous surfing venue, and also close to a small river that you can walk down to get there.
Three star accommodation comprises comfortable sitting and dining room areas open-plan to a well equipped, fully fitted kitchen; two double bedrooms (one with bunks), two bathrooms, and two further single beds behind private timber and wrought-iron screens on the enclosed verandah. The cottage sleeps six, but the kitchen caters for eight. Facilities include washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, TV with DSTV and a radio/CD/tape player. The small, enclosed and private garden is charming and has a sparkling pool with safety net if required, shady gazebo with table and benches for outside dining, sun-loungers, sun umbrella, and built-in barbeque. There is also a remote-operated single garage.
Everybody who has stayed here loves this little cottage. By day it’s a sheltered, restful haven in a beautiful and mellow setting, and at night the sea is sometimes so loud it’s as if you’re sleeping in the dunes.
Kommetjie is a magical place with all necessary facilities close at hand, just 45 mins from Cape Town and the Waterfront and 50 mins from Cape Town International Airport. You can watch the fishing boats come and go at Die Kom, take a walk to picturesque Slangkop lighthouse or visit the crayfish factory beyond. You can surf world famous waves, take endless wild beach walks and ride horses in the breakers. Or, enjoy a pint at the Fisherman's Pub whilst sampling delicious fresh seafood. Indeed, there are several excellent restaurants in Kommetjie and a whole lot more just down the road.
And you can stock up with all you need at Kommetjie Superette before going kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, hiking, or just down to the beach. Serious shopping, at Longbeach Mall, is just 10 minutes down the road, including movies and internet café, whilst Clovelly Golf Club, Cape Point Nature Reserve, Constantia Wine Route and numerous characterful and delicious Kalk Bay and Simonstown restaurants are all about 10-15 mins away.
