The Royal Guest House is situated on the Indian Ocean in Port Alfred. This quaint coastal town can be found midway between Port Elizabeth and East London in the malaria free Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
Port Alfred was started as a harbour to service the military Garrison in Grahamstown in the early 1820s and has lost none of it’s historical charm. The beaches are almost deserted and our main beach a safe Blue Flag recognised beach.
Our guest house is high on the east bank of the Kowie River which runs through Port Alfred and overlooks the peaceful marina. We are two minutes' drive from the centre of town where you have access to all modern amenities, and one minutes’ drive from the nearest beach.
We have ten luxury rooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, airconditioning, 8 channels of DSTV, a mini bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, telephone and hair dryer. All are fitted with double beds and two of the rooms have modern, comfortable sleeper couches as well. The addition of a pair of bunk beds makes one of these into a very user friendly family room sleeping six.
The cosy lounge has a bar, television, recliner chair and plush lounge suite overlooking the marina. We also have a large log fire should the evenings turn chilly.
French doors from the lounge open onto a magnificent wooden deck (with pool and loungers) from where you can overlook the town and out to sea (sometimes spotting the odd migrating whale!)

Accommodation
We have two rooms with lounges and private balconies. Situated high in the building they give spectacular views of the marina and the sea. They have private entrances and are richly furnished.
The inside rooms are fitted with queen beds and plush furnishings. Two are equipped with an outstanding feature – a smoked glass bathroom roof.
The family room is proving very popular, with its heavy pine bunk beds for the children.

Breakfast is served in our oregon pine floored dining-room.
We have freshly brewed coffee and several varieties of tea available all day. Afternoon tea with cakes and scones can be arranged.
Evening meals can be ordered by special arrangement.

Your hostess Meagan, is always on hand to make your stay at the Royal a memorable experience from the moment you arrive! We are able to collect you from either Port Elizabeth or East London airports, organise car hire, game reserve trips, picnics, deep sea fishing, hiking, canoe trips, river cruises or outings to the beach (five minutes away). We have purchased the extraordinary Fiat Multipla to carry you in air-conditioned comfort, with large tinted windows ideal for game-viewing.
Some guests enjoy a cruise up the river and we could organise a sumptuous picnic in a secluded spot. We are situated very near to the Port Alfred Spa and can organise an afternoon’s pampering …….
We also have special packages to celebrate anniversaries or 2nd honeymoons!

Directions
We are on the R72, very well sign-posted, on the East London side of Port Alfred.
From East London
Enter the town and Beach Crescent is on the left directly opposite the Health Hydro, before you go down the hill to the river. About 100m on your right is No: 8.
From Port Elizabeth
Enter the town on the R72 and continue through the Robot/ Traffic Light and proceed up the hill. Beach Crescent is at the top, on the right, directly opposite the Health Hydro. About 100m on your right is No: 8.
