At Victoria House you can relax in the friendly atmosphere of a fully restored Georgian home of historic importance.
In 1834 Edward Henty established a farm at Portland Bay, founding Victoria’s first permanent settlement. Today, no less than 100 historic buildings are still in use – one of the most outstanding being Victoria House, the bluestone mansion which first opened its doors as a hotel in 1856. During its 150-year history it has been a gracious private home, a seminary, government offices and, most recently, a guesthouse.
Our completely restored, original bluestone guesthouse is waiting to welcome you. Victoria House has delightful ensuite rooms with telephones, radio, TV and coffee-making facilities.
You’ll enjoy our house with its traditional sitting room and welcoming fire, its location close to the city centre, beach and harbour, and our personal service. We serve full breakfasts and can provide local information to help make the most of your stay in Portland. Whether you are holidaying here, on business or breaking the journey between Adelaide and Melbourne, you’ll be glad you chose to stay with us. You’ll be pleased by the moderate tariffs.
Our bedrooms are individually decorated to provide a sense of warmth and serenity.
There’s a place by the fire for you and a book or for rediscoverihng the gentle art of conversation with old or new friends.
Bedrooms have TV, IDD phone, tea/coffee, refrigerator. All bedrooms have ensuite toilet and bath.
Fresh orange juice, seasonal fruit bowl, cereal, bacon and eggs, tea and coffee included in tariff.
Portland and surrounding areas have much to offer. Whether your interests are in history, enjoying coastlines and beaches, great walks, visiting seal colonies or whale watching (seasonal), Portland will surprise and delight you.
Portland is a thriving international port today, set in spectacular coastal scenery and close to many national parks based on coasts, rivers and volcanic craters.
It is the ideal place for starting or finishing your exploration of Victoria's Great Ocean Road.
